ACORN scandal vs. the potential for vote-suppression.

Some say the ACORN (the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now) scandal has the potential to mess up the voting. According to cnn.com "Experts who have examined the allegations against ACORN have concluded that there is no significant threat of voter fraud." This organization is the nations largest community organization for low and average income families. They work together for social justice and to build stronger communities. Although this is what they are set out to do people are saying different. Rottenacorn.com says "ACORN sued the state of California to get out of paying its own employees the state minimum wage." In many states their is a high percentage of voter fraud from ACORN employee's. This could potentially affect our voting system.

Vote Suppression: As i understand it vote suppression is not very known, but happens all over the US. In some colleges, people would not let certain people vote. They said that since they were living in dorms it was illegal for them to vote because it is not an actual residence. But surprisingly this was a total lie. The students had all the right to vote and were lied to by a certain group of people. This discouraged or stopped people from voting. Does America have a history of vote suppression? America has a definite history of voter suppression.

The Internet has affected the way that Americans approach democracy because over the Internet there are millions of different websites. Each website provides a different side to the story, some wrong, some right, and ALOT of different opinions. If we didn't have any of this, the way democracy would be viewed might be more civilized and politics might be more calm. Such as the current presidential election, there are so many different views out there that could change the way people think if the affects of the Internet weren't present.

Although the Internet can give false information, it also contains so much more true information than any news paper or other form of media could give. The Internet is an unlimited resources of information. Anything that you want to know is there. When you read a newspaper you are limited to what you read. You don't get to chose what you are reading, the author does. So the amount of information that we have now compared to historical information is an extreme growth.

Newspaper Reflection

Something that I contributed to the final product was my article about transportation. I feel like I did really well on my final article. It was a good length to fill up the page, and I had a good image of the train to add to the article. Something that I contributed to the product that I would improve was that I made an extra article for the bottom off the page to make it longer and I feel like it was a bit unorganized, also an image could have been added to it. I used my resources for this project fairly well. There wasn’t much information that I could find to begin with, but from what I did find I think I used it very good. I had specific dates had historical facts that were put into the article from the resources I found.

GIS!

"GIS allows us to view, understand, question, interpret, and visualize data in many ways that reveal relationships, patterns, and trends in the form of maps, globes, reports, and charts." http://www.gis.com/whatisgis/index.html

So I have never really heard of a GIS before I wrote this blog and I'm still not to clear but I'm going to try to explain it my best. To my understanding the current applications for GIS in the present day or the near future basically just helps us see and understand better maps, globes, reports and other sort of information. This could lead us to maybe seeing different parts of the world, and or the weather that we could be facing such a Global Warming or sever weather conditions.

Lincoln-Douglas Debate

The debate that I had was debate number 5. This debate took place October 7, 1858 in Galesburg Illinois. The main topic of the debate was about slavery. Lincoln was very against slavery and believed that every man should be treated equally and i definitely agree. For my article for the news paper I wrote about the transportation that had been built in 1854. This helped the turnout of the debate tremendously, and also helped connect the people.


Obama-Biden vs. McCain-Palin

The 2008 Presidential and Vice Presidential Debates: When the Presidential Debate took place I feel that Obama won the debate because he answered the questions thoroughly for the most part, while McCain was very jumbled with his words and did not sound very promising. I feel that McCain is to old to run for president and i think that he will forget half the promises that he made. When it came to the VP Debate I feel that Biden also took the debate. Palin was very unprofessional and even said she wasn't going to answer the questions. She used slang to answer her questions such as "Joe six pack" and other very unprofessional phrases. Palin also said that since she has only been running for 5 weeks she doesn't have any promises because it has been such a short time, this shows how inexperienced she is. So overall I am convinced that the Obama-Biden team where the winners.
