John F. Kennedy vs. Obama

I choose John F. Kennedy's and Barack Obama's inauguration speech and articles to compare. The importance of J.F.K's speech is the issue of foreign policy, Obama talks about this in many of his speeches as well.

As Obama has recently become President of the United States he has many large roles to take on. One of the things he has proposed to do is slowly take troops out of Iraq and move them somewhere else or come back home, on the Obama presidential website it says, "iimmediately upon taking office, Obama will give his Secretary of Defense and military commanders a new mission in Iraq: successfully ending the war. The removal of our troops will be responsible and phased." The goal I think Obama has to end the war peacefully and successfully. Kennedy wanted the same, in his inaugural speech he states "let the oppressed go free." They each share similarities on the ways they go out to be president.

I think that Kennedy had the potential of being one of the best presidents because of the goals he had set out to accomplish, but unfortunately enough he was not able to pursue his goals. The new president Obama now I think has the potential to change the world for the better and has already made history of being the first African American President of all time.

In Kennedy's speech he states "let the oppressed go free". They each have there own similarities.

Inauguration!!!!!!!!!

"Homes have been lost; jobs shed; businesses shuttered. Our health care is too costly; our schools fail too many; and each day brings further evidence that the ways we use energy strengthen our adversaries and threaten our planet."

1. Why did you choose this section?
I choose this section because I think that he clearly says what the state of our country is in. He's giving examples of our bad economy and how people have lost so much and how we are wasteful of our planets resources. He's understanding of people from lower class and unlike Bush, he shows interest in saving the planet from the effects of global warming. For that reason, that is why this statement stood out to me.

2. How do Obama's words relate to the everyday life that you know and understand?

Obama's words relate to everyday life for me and most Americans because what he says is reality. Americans see and feel the changing of our climate and notice the extreme down to our economy. People have been loosing jobs left and right and Obama knows he needs to fix these problems. "These are the indicators of crisis, subject to data and statistics

Revise Outline

Thesis:
Edie Sedgwick started at the top of the socialite train and then met Andy Warhol which turned her life around and came to Bob Dylan not much longer her short life ended.

2. Body Paragraphs: Everything you write in your paragraphs should be one of the following things: A topic sentence; A piece of evidence; a statement of analysis; bonus: Transition to the next paragraph. Make sure you select a wide range of evidence, perspectives and sources!

1. The history of Edie Sedgwick
2. About Bob Dylan, Edie and a little on Andy Warhol
3. The relationship between Edie and Bob

3. Conclusion: Looks to the future, leaves us thinking, refers to the thesis but keeps us moving beyond so our experience in the real world now includes your perspective.

As Edie Sedgwick started her life as an heiress and socialite she went down hill really quickly by getting into the wrong scene of people. Her short life of 28 years could have been so much longer and filled with great fame.

Artist's Statement Outline

In your blog entry, please post:
1. Your thesis statement. This should communicate something original (and hopefully, interesting) about the connection you have established between your icons.

Edie Sedgwick at one point had an extravagant life witch suddenly went down hill, she met Bob Dylan with lyrics that put her down extremely.

2. Body Paragraphs: Topic sentence. Evidence. Analysis. Bonus: Transition to the next paragraph.

I honestly dont know what to put here yettt! :[

GWB & the Environment

The first article is stating how Bush has "protected more ocean than any person in history." While he has been protecting large portions of the ocean he has also been putting no effort in stopping global warming. On Salon.com it shows "Bushes seven evironmental deadly sins", so he is both helping the environment but at the same time letting it suffer by global warming. After each "deadly sin" of Bush it states Obama's mission of helping save the earth.

I think that Bush is just trying to get America to like him right before he leaves office, so he's trying to save as much as possible in a small amount of time.

Bush Sin 1: Blew hot air on global warming
Bush Sin 2: Failed to regulate greenhouse gases at home
Bush Sin 3: Failed to develop clean energy sources
Bush Sin 4: Abandoned endangered species
Bush Sin 5: Carved up the American West for oil and gas excavation
Bush Sin 6: Not seeing the forest or the trees
Bush Sin 7: Choked our clean-air standards

My Internship

1. What do you hope to learn or discover about the "adult" world of work while you are at your internship?

I hope to learn what it will be like to work full time when immersion week comes. I currently work in retail so I know how it is working a short shift, but I'm excited to know what its like to work a full day.

2. What do you hope to learn or discover about yourself and your identity while you are at your internship this semester?

I hope to discover that I enjoy working, because if I don't I'm going to hate life if I ever have a full time job later on. I also hope to learn new concepts in whatever field I'm placed in for my Internship.

3. What goals do you have for yourself for your internship experience?

The biggest goal I have for internship is to finish a project that contributes to my organization as well as contributes to my learning.
